Tulsi, who was called one of the seven gifted youngsters in the world by the Time magazine in 2003, had hogged the limelight by passing the matriculation examination at the age of nine in 1997. He went on to get B.Sc. (honours)  and post-graduation degrees from Patna University at the age of 10 and 12 respectively. The Patna University Academic Council had allowed him to appear in the B.Sc. examination under special circumstances. Later, he did his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

His talent, however, came under scanner later and he was labeled a fake prodigy by sceptics. Tathagat remained in depression for a few years before he fought back to prove his critics wrong. He competed his doctoral research on the generalisations of the quantum search algorithm in 2009.

Tathagat, who name appears in the record books for being the youngest matriculate and youngest graduate in the country and claims to be the youngest scholar in the country to have a doctoral degree, aspires for nothing less than a Nobel now.
